50 years of Fujitsu General Australia:
Founded in Japan in 1936, GENERAL Inc. (formerly Fujitsu General Limited) has grown from a home appliance maker into a global air conditioning company developed through decades of innovation. In Australia, that history spans more than 50 years, from the company’s local beginnings in 1974 to major milestones in ducted systems, AIRSTAGE™ Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), smarter control technology, commercial expansion, and recognition for product design, customer satisfaction, and brand trust. Today, GENERAL Australia continues to build on that legacy, delivering comfort and control for homes and businesses across the country, and is still ‘Australia’s Favourite Air®.
A new chapter began on 1 January 2026, when Fujitsu General Australia officially changed its trading name to GENERAL Australia. This followed Fujitsu General Limited’s integration into Paloma Rheem Holdings Co., Ltd. in August 2025 and alignment with the global move to the new trading name, GENERAL Inc. While the business name changed, GENERAL Australia continues to market its products under the trusted FUJITSU and GENERAL AIRSTAGE™ brands, building on its strengths to accelerate innovation and continue delivering comfort and value to Australian homes and businesses.
Established as Yaou Shouten Ltd. Moves from the manufacture of radios, loud speakers, electric phonographs, etc. into the manufacture of home electrical appliances

Production of various home appliances begins including radio, audio, electric heater and television products with the first mass-produced black-and-white television, 17T-2 in 1953.

Commencement of the air conditioning business in Japan. Release of the first air conditioner, the window-type cooler EA-55A.

Sales Affiliate first established in Australia as Australia General Colour Pty Ltd.

Became a full subsidiary of the General Corporation of Japan Aust Pty Ltd.

Partners with the NRL Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs as the official jersey sponsor on a one-year deal.

A new associate is formed in Japan. The company becomes globally recognised as Fujitsu General Limited.

Launch of the first high static ducted air conditioning system in Australia.

Mark Taylor becomes Fujitsu General Australia’s first brand ambassador.

Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) product range is introduced into Australian market.

Fujitsu General wins GfK No.1 Award for top selling Air conditioner brand sold in the Australian market for five consecutive years.

Inner Circle program launched to support Home builders and property developers.

Fujitsu General launches its first ducted controller.

In October, Fujitsu General receives a 2011 Good Design Award for the Designer series of wallmounted air conditioners.

In April, Fujitsu General Australia wins the 2012 Canstar Blue ‘Most Satisfied Customers’ Award for air conditioners, achieving five stars in all survey categories.

In May, Fujitsu General Australia wins the 2012 iF Product Design Award for the Designer wallmounted range of air conditioners.

In August, Fujitsu General Australia launches AIRSTAGE™ VR-II heat recovery VRF system at ARBS, offering high efficiency in a compact design from 8HP to 48HP with Heat Recovery.

In February, Fujitsu General becomes the first company to release air conditioning systems using R32 refrigerant in Australia.

In November, Fujitsu General Australia announces co-major partnerships with the Essendon Football Club.

In September, Fujitsu General launches the AIRSTAGE™ J-IIS Series, offering a compact, high-performance VRF air conditioning solution for residential and commercial spaces

Fujitsu General announces becomes official sleeve sponsor for the South Sydney Rabbitohs on a two-year deal.

In November, Fujitsu General Assist is launched to provide a seamless after-sales experience for customers.

In December, Fujitsu General introduces the Authorised Partner program to support its network of specialist, commercial, and wholesale customers.

Fujitsu General becomes Co-Sponsor of Essendon VFLW football team. Australia's Favourite Air® is officially trademark registered.

Fujitsu General, is voted the 2018 Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Brand for air conditioning. The 2018 survey is the first time the air conditioning category has been included in the awards.

A four year partnership is announced with Sydney FC that includes the Sky Blues’ Hyundai A-League, National Premier League (NPL) and Academy squads.

New Headquarters is set up at Eastern Creek - state of the art facility with 1,093 square metre office, 5 Green Star energy rated building and 8,500 square metre warehouse.

In September, the anywAiR® Technology ducted Controller is launched, providing a wi-fi control solution to users in operating their Fujitsu ducted air conditioning system.

Fujitsu General Australia leads the global AIRSTAGE co‑branding campaign. Introduction of the Applied Product range including Rooftop Package, Air-Cooled & Water-Cooled Chillers.

In April, Fujitsu General commemorates 25 years of partnership with brand ambassador Mark Taylor.

In September, Fujitsu General Australia launches anywAiR® iO, an advanced control system tailored for the HVAC commercial and industrial building sectors.

In March, the Apple‑Catechin filter (from the Lifestyle range) receives Sensitive Choice approval from National Asthma Council.

In May, Fujitsu General Australia celebrates 50 years of continuous operations in Australia after launching in the region in 1974, nearly 40 years after it was originally established in Japan.

In June, Fujitsu celebrates 10 years of partnership with Essendon Football Club with a $10k Giveaway, enhancing their commitment to grassroots programs and the club's diverse community initiatives.
In September, Fujitsu General Australia celebrates a double win at the 2024 Finder Customer Satisfaction Awards for 'Most Loved' & 'Top Value' air conditioner.

In November, Fujitsu General and Beijer Ref Australia announce a new distribution partnership for Fujitsu air conditioners.

In January, Paloma Rheem Holdings commence tender offer to acquire Fujitsu General Ltd. Fujitsu General Australia wins Product Review's Best Appliance Brand Award for the third consecutive year.

In March, Fujitsu General Australia extends partnership with Mark Taylor to 2027, taking it to a 29-year milestone.

In July, Fujitsu General refreshes smart home control with enhanced anywAiR® ducted controller and new garage door functionality.

In August, Fujitsu General launches launches its new R32 Multi 5 Rooms systems designed for multi‑room energy‑efficient comfort.

In September, the large capacity R32 High Static Ducted series is launched, completing the company’s R32 ducted family for the Australian market.

In September, a partnership is established with Three Birds Card to offer exclusive cash‑back benefits, designed to support homeowners and renovators.

In November, partnership is extended with Essendon Football Club as the Co-Major Partner of the EFC Network.

In January, Fujitsu General Australia officially changes its business name to General Australia, reflecting the company’s next chapter as part of Paloma Rheem Holdings.
