Late last year the Buxton School of Arts Community Hall was a comfortable refuge for many impacted by the Green Wattle Creek bush fires. A focal point for the community, it will now be even more comfortable for community groups following the donation of an air conditioning system by Fujitsu General Australia.

Installed on April 9 by Narellan based Airlectrical Pty Ltd, the Buxton Community Association reached out to Fujitsu General after identifying the important role the hall played for the community during those devastating times. Joshua MacIntosh from Airlectrical said the business was proud to support local community groups which throughout the year provide services and events for the local Buxton community. “The Fujitsu ducted air conditioning system will provide comfort for those using the premises all year-round," he commented.

According to Brett Gumbley, President Buxton Community Association, air conditioning will allow the hall to become a comfortable and accessible meeting place for the community throughout the year. “In addition to supporting our weekly community groups that use the hall, having air conditioning will also allow us to run a number of indoor community-based events in a comfortable environment.”

Mr Gumbley advised that some of the planned activities include:

  • education programs and conferences, such as workshops on sustainability, including earthen masonry, gardening and waste reduction
  • on-going free family movie nights, providing much needed social relief to the local community, potentially expanding to a film festival or photography competition with a focus on children and youth
  • digital community history events, showcasing the historical archive at free community history open days
  • social wellbeing workshops including art, craft, drumming, nutrition, yoga and meditation.

Trevor Cook, General Manager – Customer Experience for Fujitsu General commented that the business was proud to help the Buxton Community Association improve such a necessary community venue. “Like many Australian businesses, Fujitsu General has been eager to help communities impacted by the bush fires. The Buxton Community Association is such a critical organisation within the community, and we hope the installation of air conditioning makes it an even more popular venue for residents, businesses and visitors to the area.”
