My Air Conditioning Unit Is Not Cooling, What Should I Do?

By Kyle Rafter - December 19, 2025

If your air conditioner is not cooling enough, several common issues could be to blame. Incorrect thermostat settings, dirty air filters, blocked outdoor units, refrigerant leaks or electrical faults can all reduce performance and result in your air conditioning unit not cooling effectively.

If you’re using a single room air conditioner the space might be too large for the unit’s cooling capacity.

If the problem of your air conditioner not cooling continues, there might be a refrigerant or mechanical issue that requires professional attention.

Common Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner is Not Blowing Cold Air

When your air conditioner isn’t blowing cold air, below are the most common causes.

  • Dirty or clogged filters – You can learn more about how often you should clean air conditioner filters here.

  • Incorrect thermostat settings – If your thermostat isn’t set correctly, your air conditioner won’t start the cooling cycle.

  • Blocked outdoor unit – Leaves, dust or debris can block airflow to the outdoor unit and reduce your system’s ability to cool effectively.

  • Low refrigerant levels or leaks – A refrigerant leak can prevent your air conditioner from cooling properly and should be repaired by a licensed technician.

  • Electrical or component issues – Faulty capacitors, fans or compressors can also stop your air conditioner from producing cool air.

Fujitsu Air Conditioner Not Cooling? Here are some Solutions

If your Fujitsu air conditioner isn’t cooling as expected, there are a few simple steps you can take.

  • Clean or replace filters – Regular cleaning improves efficiency and air quality, helping your system maintain consistent cooling performance.

  • Check thermostat settings – Double-check that your system is set to cooling mode and that the target temperature is lower than the room temperature.

  • Inspect the outdoor unit – Make sure there’s at least 30–50 cm of space around the outdoor unit. Remove leaves, dirt or debris that could block airflow.

  • Reset the system – A simple reset can help restore your Fujitsu air conditioner’s cooling function. To reset the system, locate the small ‘RESET’ button on your remote control (usually near the bottom) and press it gently. Wait a few minutes, then restart your unit to see if cooling resumes.

  • Schedule regular maintenance – Regular inspections from a professional service agent can ensure refrigerant levels, electrical components and sensors are all working correctly.

If your air conditioner is still not cooling, it’s best to schedule a professional inspection. Fujitsu’s qualified technicians can identify the cause and restore your system’s cooling performance safely and efficiently.
