Hot tips to cool down for a good night’s sleep

Did you know bedroom temperature can have a significant impact on sleep quality? Sleep experts link comfortable bedroom temperature and optimum body temperature with successful sleep. A lowering in body temperature is a natural function as we prepare for sleep[1], which means a room temperature that is too high can lead to restlessness and poor sleep[2].

In modern home designs, the bedrooms are often found upstairs. And as hot air rises, it can create an uncomfortable setting. Especially in summer when temperatures don't drop throughout the night, consider the following tips to help encourage a good night’s sleep.

  1. Hydration is key: while appetites can sometimes be suppressed by heat[3], regular fluid intake is necessary.  Drinking water regularly throughout the day will help hydrate the body for the long hours of sleep ahead.

  2. Natural is best: breathable bed linens such as cotton and linen promote air flow and ventilation[4]. Natural fibres will absorb perspiration and keep bodies cool, dry and more comfortable on warm nights.

  3. Install an air conditioner: Fujitsu General has a wide range of reverse cycle air conditioning solutions to meet the needs of any home. A Fujitsu multi system enables temperature control in up to six rooms using individual indoor units and only one outdoor unit. Whether it’s the nursery, parent or teenager’s bedrooms, each space can be individually controlled by remote control and specific temperatures set for personalised comfort.

  4. Get the temperature right: in summer, adjust the room temperature to create a cool and comfortable sleeping environment. Using the inbuilt features on certain models will help regulate the room temperature (up to a maximum of +3 degrees). If the home is insulated it will also help keep the cool air in the room and reduce energy consumption.
